The Golden Hour

Size: 16" x 12"

This acrylic painting depicts "The Golden Hour" which is the period of daytime shortly after sunrise or before sunset during which daylight takes on magical glow as the sky goes through red, orange and yellow phases making everything just feel warmer. It's often also called the "magic hour". The lighting is soft, diffused and sometimes with little contrast although in the Spring and the Fall when the sun is lower in the sky it often also produces wonderful shadows. I am often drawn to scenes with this kind of lighting for my original paintings. With this particular Fall barn scene, I wanted to capture the light slanting across the landscape and catching spots on the mountain, trees and the foreground with warm highlights. It's filled with subtle details and is very vibrant in person. The original is coated with satin acrylic varnish and painted on archival Ampersand board. It's set in a simple black wood frame with a white border so it's ready to hang. I offer free shipping in the continental USA.
